A typical EV travels about 3–4 miles per kWh. At the recent US average residential rate of roughly 18¢/kWh[3] that is about 4.5–6¢ per mile from the grid, and less from your own roof once the system is paid off. Compare it against your own car's cost per mile rather than trusting a headline number.
